On 14 August, the Catholic Church
remembered Saint Maximilian Kolbe. (Prisoner 16670) He was a Polish Franciscan
priest who volunteered to die in the place of another prisoner in the German
death camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau on 14 August, 1941.
Maximilian will always be remembered. He
lay down his life for a total stranger.
